Canadian HR professionals appreciate receiving thank-you notes from potential candidates after an interview, according to a recent survey by Accountemps.

Two-thirds (66 per cent) of the 150 HR managers surveyed said it’s helpful for applicants to send a thank-you following an interview. Respondents cited email (67 per cent) and handwritten notes (48 per cent) as the most appropriate ways to thank employers.

HR managers are less enthusiastic about receiving a thank-you via social media and text messages, with just six per cent and four per cent, respectively, saying they consider these appropriate communication vehicles for showing gratitude.

The most common form of a thank-you note is via email (66 per cent). Less than one-fifth (18 per cent) of applicants send a handwritten note and six per cent place a phone call.

One-third (33 per cent) of HR managers said it is not at all helpful for candidates to send a thank-you note following an interview, found the survey.
